Here at the Melrose Nursing Care Home in Worthing, we know that everyone is different. We’re all individuals with different situations and needs. That’s why we offer so many different options when it comes to the respite care we provide.
If you’re looking for respite care, we can assure you that we know that one size doesn’t fit all and you can choose from several options depending on what is best for you – or if you’re looking at this on the behalf of a loved – the best for them.
What Is Respite Care?
Respite care is temporary care which has been organised in advance and can be for a variety of reasons. Reasons for respite care really do depend on the individual situation. For example, perhaps a person normally gets help from a family member or friend but, due to other commitments, they are unable to help for a set amount of time. Many also find it helpful for a caregiver to get some time off to recharge their batteries and have a rest. Lots of caregivers find that having a small amount of time off to look after themselves actually improves their relationship with the loved one they are taking care of. This is because being tired and overworked can put strain on any relationship. Respite care should be as an assistance to a person’s normal care situation to be used to benefit both the caregiver and the person they are caring for.
However, just because our care in these instances is temporary, this doesn’t mean that our standards for care are any less rigorous. Just as we would when helping a long-term resident, we tailor different types of respite care specifically to that individual’s needs in order to ensure that – not only are we providing the best possible help we can – but also that the experience with us is as positive as it can be. We understand that any change to a person’s care situation can be stressful and anxiety inducing, which is why we make sure that we carefully plan out everything that individual requires, so the change to respite care is as smooth as possible.
What’s the Difference Between Long Term and Respite Care?
Long term care is exactly what it sounds like. It’s ongoing care in a nurturing environment, where a person’s day to day needs are taken care of. As is the case with everything we do at our Nursing Care Home in Worthing, we cater our long-term care to the individual, setting up care plans so everything is taken care of and our residents can enjoy their lives to the fullest.
Other services we provide include day services for people who are looking for some support and socialisation through the day. We offer an exciting monthly calendar of events, including everything from exercise classes, arts and crafts classes to trips out. This can help ease feelings of loneliness, which are well documented to have dramatic negative effects on a person’s health. There’s also domiciliary services for those who need help with care but would prefer to – and are capable of – receiving care at their home.
Everybody is different, and that means that everybody’s care needs are different too. That’s why we offer such a wide variety of options so you can decide what’s most suitable for the needs of you and your loved ones.
